We are better together

"Two are better than one, ...."

Ecclesiastes 4:9 (NIV)

God is self-sufficient, but humans need relationships. He is the only being who can exist independently without any requirement for support or help. On the other hand, human beings are created to function in a relationship. We're not meant to be alone. In fact, in Genesis 2, God himself said, "…it is not good for man to be alone." This verse implies that humans are meant to exist in a relationship and not in isolation. However, this does not mean that every person needs to be married. In fact, there are examples in the Bible of people who did not get married, like Jeremiah and Paul. When Adam was created, he was the only human being around, and God provided him with another human to have a relationship with. This shows that relationships are essential to human existence and that we were created to have a relationship with one another.

First, they can get more work done (v.9). Working together is important in many areas of life, such as ministry, careers, and household tasks. It's always great to have a group of dedicated individuals working together towards a common goal. The different strengths and perspectives that each person brings can truly enhance the overall impact of the areas of your life.  Plus, when you work together as a team, you can provide support and encouragement to one another when challenges arise. In Mark 6:7, the Bibles says, "Calling the Twelve to him, he sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits."

Second,  people can help each other in the time of need (v.10). This applies both physically and spiritually. In Galatians 6:1-2, Paul said, "Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently." When someone is struggling spiritually, it can be helpful to have support and guidance from others to help them through it. This can come in various forms, including encouragement, and spiritual counseling, among others.

Third, they can give each other emotional support (v.11). The picture symbolizes finding comfort in difficult times, even though it originally came from travelers huddling for warmth in the cold desert nights. Naomi gave Ruth emotional support during the time she lost her husband and sons (Ruth 1)

Lastly, people can give each other protection (v.12). When people work together towards a common goal, they enhance safety and security measures. This is because each member contributes their unique skills and expertise towards identifying potential risks and developing effective solutions. In 1 Peter 5:8, the Bible says, "… Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. It is good to have your brothers and sisters in Christ using their spiritual gifts, to alert to any attack of the enemy. In 1 Samuel 18 Jonathan did this to David.

Our lives are better together because it leads to a rewarding life.
